INSEQBIN: new online bioinformatics course
September 16, 2024 - Online
Context
The new INSEQBIN online course, for Introduction to Next-Generation Sequencing and Bioinformatics, developed by the Mérieux Foundation and FIND, will be held from September 16, 2024.
The course focuses on the principle of Illumina and Oxford Nanopore sequencing technologies.
Through six training modules, learners will explore the fundamentals of sequencing, focusing on the crucial role of bioinformatics and the challenges inherent in sequencing. The course will cover key steps in bioinformatics analysis applied to sequencing such as:
- Quality assessment and raw data cleansing
- Sequence assembly
- Annotation of results
- Sequence alignment
- Identifying genetic variations
By the end of this course, participants will have grasped the essential concepts of bioinformatics, and acquired a basic understanding that can be further developed through hands-on training with the tools presented during the course.
Accessible entirely online, the course is designed to be taken at the learner’s own pace, with an estimated 4 to 6 weeks to complete (10 effective hours on the computer).
A certificate of achievement will be issued at the end of the course, subject to successful completion of the final assessment.
Who can register?
- Students of biology, bioinformatics, genetics or related disciplines, wishing to discover next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics.
- Laboratory technicians involved in sequencing projects and wishing to understand and analyze sequencing data.
- Researchers in biology, genetics, medicine and bioinformatics, wishing to deepen their knowledge to better interpret and exploit sequencing data.
A basic knowledge of biology and molecular biology is required.
