These training sessions were intended to improve the skills of cleaning staff in regards to disease prevention and waste management in healthcare settings.
The trainings included presentations on wastewater handling; the collection, transport, treatment, and elimination of waste; and the health and environmental risks related to waste. There were also practical exercises on how to clean the premises and surfaces and handle waste, and field visits to evaluate hygiene and cleanliness.
These sessions took place from February 27-March 2 in the region of Kayes; from March 6-9 in Koulikoro; from March 12-15 in Sikasso; and from March 20-23 in Segou. They were coordinated by the Mérieux Foundation in Mali, in collaboration with the NGO Santé Sud, the Government of Monaco, the Charles Mérieux Center for Infectious Disease, and the National Health Directorate (DNS). The training was led by a medical officer from the DNS Hygiene and Sanitation unit.
