More than 100 global experts from academia, international organizations, NGOs, regulatory authorities and industry gathered at Les Pensières, Fondation Mérieux’s conference centre, from 8-10 April for the 5th edition of the “Better Foods for Better Health” fora organized by Fondation Mérieux with the support of Mérieux NutriSciences.
This year, the forum was entitled “Microbiota & Health: the challenges of a promising approach”, discussing the role of the gut microbiota in health and chronic diseases.
3 main sessions were held:
- Metabolic syndromes: obesity, diabetes, Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD);
- Malnutrition, kwashiorkor & cachexia;
- Microbiota, nutrition and healthy living.
Presentations included new perspectives from the microbiota approach to prevent or cure disease and opportunities offered by novel scientific models based on microbiota studies were discussed. Philippe Sans, Mérieux NutriSciences’ President and CEO stated: “Microbiota is and has been for a few years a topic of growing interest in the scientific community, and we are very pleased to generate discussion in this community with events like Better Foods for Better Health.”
By improving dialogue between the scientific community, regulatory, nutrition and industry stakeholders, the symposium reflects one of the core components of Fondation Mérieux’s strategy, being knowledge-sharing. The Foundation organizes high-level scientific symposiums and conferences as part of its efforts to share and disseminate global medical advances in various fields.
About the Better Foods for Better Health meetings
This year’s edition of “Better Foods for Better Health” is the 5th of a series of symposia held once a year at Les Pensières conference centre (with the support of Mérieux NutriSciences), dedicated to sharing the latest scientific developments in nutrition in both developed and developing countries by bringing together scientists, industry players and public policy makers. Addressing the need for better global nutrition and food safety challenges fits into Fondation Mérieux’s global health approach of linking health, nutrition and education.
