Fondation Mérieux increases its support to its historical partners in Haiti to help the victims of the earthquake.

After a recent visit of Alain Mérieux and Benoit Miribel, Director General of Fondation Mérieux, various operations were identified in relation with the foundation’s mission.

  • The foundation supports the GHESKIO and the Cornell University by setting a multiannual project “Alliance for Global Health Haiti”. This project is being drafted and will include various shutters related to infectious diseases and health care primary education.
  • The Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory, integrated into the Institut des Maladies Infectieuses et de Santé de la Reproduction (IMIS), received little damage by the earthquake. It is now open and used for pathogen identification and research on Multi Drug Resistance Tuberculosis (MDRTB).
  • Fondation Mérieux is working on setting up a course for laboratory technicians in Port-au-Prince. This course will follow the example of the BAMS (Bachelor of Applied Medical Science) course organized within the Infectiology Centre Charles Mérieux in Mali.

The course organized in partnership with the Université Catholique de Lyon and l’Ecole Supérieure de Techniciens Biochimie-Biologie (ESTBB), will be set up with the Haitian National Laboratoryand our local partner, the GHESKIO.

A coordinator, responsible for projects in Port-au-Prince, will be recruited to set up the operations, under the direction of Professor Jean William Pape, founder and Director of the GHESKIO Centres.
