Through this accreditation, SEMAC recognizes the conformity of the Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory of the Charles Mérieux Center for Infectious Disease of Mali to the requirements of quality and competence, for its biochemistry, hematocytology, infectious serology and bacteriology activities.
This is a source of pride for the quality team and the entire staff of the Charles Mérieux Center for Infectious Disease of Mali, who have seen several years of sustained efforts crowned with success. The Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory of the Charles Mérieux Center for Infectious Disease of Mali is the first biomedical diagnostic laboratory accredited to the ISO 15189 standard in Mali. It is becoming a reference in the field of biomedical diagnostics in Mali, enabling it to make a significant contribution to the service provided to patients and to the strengthening of the Malian health system.
This distinction is the result of the support provided as part of Mérieux Foundation’s Quality Initiative. This program promotes the implementation of a quality management system in laboratories in developing countries, in particular members of the GABRIEL network, with the aim of meeting the international standard ISO 15189. The Initiative has nine members, located in nine countries – Haiti, Laos, Mali, Paraguay, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Madagascar, Morocco and Cambodia.
The Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory in Bamako is the fourth member laboratory of the Quality Initiative to obtain accreditation. It joins the Center of Infectiology Lao Christophe Mérieux in Vientiane, Laos, accredited in 2019, as well as the laboratories of the GHESKIO Centres in Haiti and the Department of Molecular Biology Sciences and Biotechnology of the Health Research Institute of the National University of Paraguay, accredited in 2018.
